Dorothy Green

Russian-born Dorothy Green came to the United States, jettisoned her birth name and found as an American a cognomen as she could manage. Her minimal English was no liability on the silent screen, and she quickly found a place with Jesse Lasky's company, playing a leading role in 1914's "The Country Boy." Her beauty made her the central spectacle in "The Model" with the World Film Company in 1915. David S. Shields/ALS
