Dorothy Mackaill

Dorothy Mackaill's life was the plot of a showbiz success move: an English girl runs away to Paris trying to be an actress, meets an American choreographer who encourages her to go to New York, travels to New York, catches the eye of Florenz Ziegfeld, appears in the Follies, catches the eye of motion picture producers, transitions to the movies, and after three years of supporting roles becomes a leading lady, survives the transition from silent to sound, eventually starring in half a dozen movies over the course of a career that rises above the general standard of entertainment fodder. David S.
