Nellie Howard

A "light comedian" who emerged at Niblo's Theater in New York during the Civil War, Nellie Howard enjoyed a twenty-year career on the New York stage as a chorine, feature singer, and supporting actress, sometimes with John Drew's company at Daly's Theatre at other times with the Union Square Theatre. She had a number of bits that were considered charming, playing a French girl as in "Three Wives to One Husband" and dancing a jig in "The Idiot of the Shannon," yet she never rose above being an agreeable stage presence.
