The Vanderbilt Cup

Named after the famous automobile race that captivated popular attention in the early years of the century, this Rosenfeld & Bowers musical was a quintessential Girl Show--that is, an entertainment celebrating the ambitions and abilities of young women, shown by their triumph over tradition and prejudice. Elsie Janis was the 'shero' of this comedy of contest, eventually winning the cup dressed in a man's driving coat. The climactic race had motion picture special effects provided by the Kinetograph Company.
